Product Overview

The PE Knotless Fish Cage Net and PE Knotted Fish Cage Net are the marine-grade polyethylene netting options for HDPE floating fish cages in commercial aquaculture. Produced from virgin PE monofilament with UV-stabilizer added during extrusion, both net types deliver 15+ years of service life in seawater without rot, chemical breakdown or UV degradation.

Two net types address different site conditions: the PE Knotless Net has no knots, reducing drag and turbulence in high-current sites such as offshore cages and tidal zones, while the PE Knotted Net has traditional knot construction for lower-current coastal and lake sites where higher mesh stability is needed. Both are supplied cut to cage size with reinforced top and bottom edges for attachment to the floating pipe frame and bottom ring.

Quick Information

  • Product Name: PE Knotless / Knotted Fish Cage Net

Specification Table

Net configurations supplied with fish cage kits: Inner Net (fish containment), Outside Protective Net (predator protection) and Top Cover Net (escape and bird protection).

Net Type Description Configuration Standard Use Spec Example
PE Knotless Net (Inner) Inner net for fish containment, low drag, no knots 18 ply x 8 mm mesh Inner net for 10 m x 10 m cage (10 m water depth) 10 m x 10 m x H8+1 m
PE Knotted Net (Protective) Outside protective net, traditional knot construction, higher stability 36 ply x 4.0 cm mesh Outside protective net for 10 m x 10 m cage 22.4 m x 22.4 m x H8.5 m
PE Knotless Net (Top Cover) Top cover net to prevent fish escape and predator access from above 10 ply x 3.2 cm mesh Top cover for 10 m x 10 m cage 10 m x 10 m

Note: Net mesh size unit - MD = whole mesh, SQ = half mesh; ply = number of strands; mesh = aperture size. Other net materials available: Nylon Net, UHMWPE (Dyneema) Net. Custom sizes cut to cage dimensions.

Key Features

  • UV-stabilized PE monofilament: Carbon black and UV stabilizer added during extrusion prevent photodegradation, so the fish cage net keeps its strength through 15+ years of tropical or temperate sun exposure.
  • Two net types for different sites: Knotless net for low-drag offshore cages in strong currents, knotted net for high-stability freshwater and calm-water fish farming sites.
  • Three-layer protection: Inner containment net, outside protective net and top cover net work together to keep stock safe from predators and escapes across the whole fish cage.
  • Cut to cage size: Supplied pre-cut to the exact cage diameter and depth, so the netting fits the frame on first installation without on-site re-cutting.
  • Reinforced attachment edges: The top edge is reinforced for floating pipe frame attachment and the bottom edge for bottom ring or cement pendant, so hang-off points do not tear under load.
  • Marine-grade compound: Virgin PE with no recycled content, tested for saltwater and chemical resistance, with Nylon and UHMWPE (Dyneema) options for demanding sites.

Production

Raw Material

The netting is woven from virgin PE monofilament with UV-stabilizer and carbon black masterbatch. Thread diameter and tenacity are tested before weaving, so every fish cage net starts from yarn with verified breaking strength.

Molding Process

Netting is woven on industrial looms to the specified mesh size and thread diameter. Knotless net uses warp-weft interlock construction for smooth, low-drag surfaces, while knotted net uses traditional reef knot construction for maximum mesh stability. Both types are cut to project size and the edges are reinforced with heavier thread.

Quality Control

Mesh size tolerance is checked across the net, thread tenacity is tested on samples from each batch, and breaking strength is verified against ISO 18065 before the netting is approved for a fish cage kit.

Applications

  • Marine offshore cages: Knotless net for salmon and tuna cages in high-current coastal waters.
  • Coastal near-shore cages: Knotless or knotted net selected by current velocity at the fish farming site.
  • Freshwater cages: Knotted net for tilapia, catfish and carp cage culture in lakes and reservoirs.
  • Predator protection: Outside protective net and top cover net against birds, seals and other predators.
  • RAS systems: Netting for recirculating aquaculture system tanks, screens and conditioning ponds.
