Product Overview

The HDPE Fish Cage Floating Pipe is the main buoyancy member of every HDPE floating fish cage we supply for commercial aquaculture and fish farming projects. Extruded from PE100 HDPE compound with carbon black, the floating pipe provides the flotation that keeps the cage frame, netting and walkway above water - even when fully loaded with fish stock and subject to continuous wave action.

Standard floating pipe sizes range from DN200 (8 inch) to DN500 (20 inch) in SDR11, SDR17 and SDR21 pressure ratings. The larger SDR values produce lighter pipe with higher buoyancy per meter, making the HDPE Fish Cage Floating Pipe a cost-effective choice for both small 8 m nursery cages and large 40 m grow-out cages. All pipe is produced to ISO 4427 PE100 specification and delivered in standard 6 m / 9 m / 12 m lengths or cut to project specification.

Handrail Pipe specifications: 90 mm x 6.7 mm SDR13.6 (8 m), 110 mm x 10 mm SDR11 (10-30 m), 125 mm x 11.4 mm SDR11 (30-40 m Reinforced). Standing Pipe specifications: 110 mm x 8.1 mm SDR13.6 (8 m), 125 mm x 9.2 mm SDR13.6 (10-30 m).

Key Features

  • High buoyancy per meter: Hollow PE100 pipe displaces water to provide natural flotation for the fish cage frame, without enclosed air chambers that can leak or lose pressure over the service life of the cage.
  • PE100 ISO 4427 compliant: Every HDPE Fish Cage Floating Pipe is hydrostatic pressure tested and slow crack growth resistant, with carbon black masterbatch for long-term UV stability in marine sun exposure.
  • Three SDR options: SDR11 for high-load reinforced cages, SDR17 for standard grow-out cages, SDR21 for lightweight nursery cages - one pipe family covers the full fish farming size range.
  • Standard lengths plus custom cuts: 6 m / 9 m / 12 m lengths are kept in production, and the floating pipe can be cut to project specification so cage builders waste as little material as possible on site.
  • Butt-fusion weldable: All pipe ends are prepared for butt fusion welding to ISO 21307, so the HDPE Fish Cage Floating Pipe forms a continuous, leak-free welded frame instead of a bolted one.
  • Corrosion-free seawater service: Unlike galvanized steel floats, the PE100 body never rusts, never needs painting, and keeps its buoyancy for 15-20 years of continuous fish farming duty.
  • Proven cage configurations: The pipe sizes above are the same ones used in our 8 m to 40 m cage kits, so a replacement or extension pipe always matches the existing frame.

Production

Raw Material

Every HDPE Fish Cage Floating Pipe is extruded from virgin PE100 HDPE compound with 2-3% carbon black masterbatch. The raw material is tested for density, melt flow rate, tensile strength and slow crack growth resistance against ISO 4427 before it enters the extrusion line, so the finished floating pipe keeps consistent strength in seawater.

Molding Process

The pipe is extruded through a calibrated die to the specified outside diameter and wall thickness, then vacuum-sized and water-cooled under controlled conditions. Each length is cut to order, and the fusion ends are trimmed square for consistent butt-fusion geometry when the fish cage frame is assembled on shore.

Quality Control

Every pipe length is hydrostatically tested at 1.5 times its rated pressure for one hour before dispatch. Wall thickness, outside diameter and out-of-roundness are measured against ISO 4427 tolerances, and test records are kept so each floating pipe batch is traceable back to its raw material lot.

Applications

  • Floating fish cage frames: Primary buoyancy member for circular and square marine cages from 8 m to 40 m diameter.
  • Walkway support: Secondary flotation for cage walkways, feeding platforms and operator access paths.
  • Mooring buoyancy: Flotation support for fish cage mooring lines, connector floats and anchor pickup buoys.
  • Fish feed barges: Custom lengths build the floating hull of feed delivery barges serving offshore cage groups.
  • Aquaculture rafts and platforms: Flotation lines for kelp lines, oyster rafts and other aquaculture structures that need durable PE100 buoyancy.
