Product Overview

The gabion box from Bingo Pipeline is a double-twisted hexagonal wire mesh container filled on site with stone. Made from hot-dip galvanized, Galfan or PVC coated low carbon steel wire, the gabion box keeps its shape under load and allows water to drain through, making it a durable solution for retaining walls, river training and slope protection.

Standard mesh is 8 x 10 cm or 6 x 8 cm with 2.7 - 3.0 mm wire, and boxes are supplied from 2 x 1 x 1 m up to 6 x 2 x 0.3 m. Every gabion box is compressed and bundled for transport, then laced together on site to form a continuous flexible structure.

Key Features

  • Flexible and self-draining: the gabion box adapts to settlement and releases water pressure, so it rarely fails catastrophically.
  • Heavy zinc coating: at least 240 g/m² of zinc on the gabion box gives decades of service in fresh water and exposed conditions.
  • Double-twist mesh: the twisted joints of the gabion box do not unravel even if a single wire is cut.
  • PVC option for aggressive water: PVC coated wire extends the gabion box life in seawater and polluted rivers.
  • Fast assembly: empty gabion box units are light, stacked flat for transport and laced together quickly on site.
  • Permeable and green: voids in the gabion box fill with soil over time, allowing vegetation to establish.

Production

Raw Material

The gabion box is woven from hot-dip galvanized low carbon steel wire, with Galfan or PVC coating available for aggressive environments. Wire diameter and zinc weight are checked before weaving so the gabion box meets its corrosion class.

Production Process

Hexagonal mesh is woven on double-twist machines, then cut, edged and assembled into boxes with internal diaphragms. Each gabion box is folded, compressed and bundled for container loading.

Quality Control

Mesh size, wire diameter, zinc coating weight, box dimensions and lacing wire are inspected on every lot of gabion box. Bundles are labelled with size and quantity for site identification.

Applications

  • Retaining wall and slope protection: the gabion box builds flexible gravity walls on unstable ground.
  • River and canal training: the gabion box protects banks and beds against scour and erosion.
  • Coastal and seaport works: PVC coated gabion box resists salt water attack.
  • Road and railway protection: the gabion box stabilises cuttings, bridge abutments and culvert outlets.
  • Landscaping and architecture: the gabion box is used for garden walls, seating and facade cladding.
