Project Overview
The Mekong Delta is one of the world's most productive aquaculture regions, responsible for a significant portion of Vietnam's seafood exports. A large-scale fish farming operation in this region required a comprehensive water management system to support its expanding production capacity. The farm, spanning over 200 hectares of ponds, needed reliable water circulation, aeration, and supply infrastructure to maintain optimal water quality for fish health and maximize yield.
Traditional materials such as metal and concrete pipes had previously been used, but they proved unsuitable for the aquatic environment due to rapid corrosion, heavy weight, and difficulty of installation across the soft delta terrain. WorldLink was engaged to design and supply a complete HDPE piping solution tailored to the specific needs of modern aquaculture operations.
Challenge
The customer needed a piping solution that could withstand continuous water exposure, resist algae and biofilm buildup, and maintain water quality for fish health. The system also needed to handle variable water flow rates across different pond sections while being lightweight enough for installation on soft, flood-prone ground. Corrosion resistance was critical, as saltwater and organic waste in aquaculture ponds accelerate the degradation of conventional piping materials.
Additionally, the installation had to be completed without draining all ponds simultaneously to avoid disrupting production cycles, requiring a modular approach that could be implemented section by section.
Solution
WorldLink provided a complete HDPE piping system comprising DN 200mm and DN 315mm PE100 pipes with injection-molded fittings specifically designed for aquaculture applications. The smooth inner surface of HDPE pipes prevents algae adhesion and biofilm formation, maintaining consistent water flow and reducing cleaning frequency.
Butt fusion welding was used for main supply lines, while electrofusion couplers enabled quick connections in tight spaces around existing pond infrastructure. The lightweight nature of HDPE pipes allowed manual handling and installation without heavy machinery, minimizing ground disturbance in the sensitive delta environment.
